FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Observodon is a video observation and feedback tool designed to support teaching, learning, and professional development. It helps educators capture real-world practice, reflect on performance, and have more meaningful learning conversations – all within your LMS.
In doing so, it helps make learning visible through real-time observation and evidence.
-
Observodon is designed for education, vocational training, and workplace learning contexts.
-
Observodon integrates directly with LMS platforms (e.g. Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace) via LTI 1.3. It complements your LMS by adding structured observation and feedback capabilities alongside new and existing courses and assessments. It doesn’t replace your LMS, it extends it.
-
You can:
Record observations
Tag evidence against frameworks or criteria
Add notes, reflections, and feedback
-
Many observation processes are:
Inconsistent
Paper-based or fragmented
Focused on compliance rather than improvement
Observodon brings everything into one place, making observations more structured, useful, and focused on improving practice.
-
The maximum file size is 200MB. If your video is larger than this, you can trim it or reduce the quality to bring the file size down before uploading.
-
Observodon shifts the focus from being observed to improving practice. It:
Encourages reflection
Supports evidence-informed conversations
Helps identify strengths and next steps
Builds a culture of continuous improvement
-
Observodon is built around improving practice, not just evaluation. It:
Supports real-time evidence capture
Encourages reflective conversations
Aligns with learning frameworks and outcomes
Is simple and intuitive to use
It’s designed to support development, not just measure performance.
-
No. Observodon can be used in:
Classrooms
Workplace training environments
Online learning settings
Coaching and mentoring contexts
It is designed for any context where observation and feedback support learning and development.
-
Observodon is designed to reduce barriers and support a wider range of learners. It:
Provides feedback in multiple formats (video, audio, and written)
Allows learners to demonstrate competence through real performance, not just written explanation
Enables learners to revisit feedback at their own pace and focus on specific moments
This approach aligns with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and supports equity and fairness by making expectations clearer and more accessible for learners with different language, literacy, and learning needs.
-
Yes. Observodon is designed to be simple and intuitive, even for users who aren’t confident with technology.
-
Your organisation retains ownership of its data. Observodon provides secure hosting and access controls, but you remain in control of your information.
-
Yes. Data protection is a key consideration in the design of Observodon. Access is controlled, and data is stored securely.
All user data is stored on Microsoft Azure, allowing clients to choose where their data is hosted. This means data can be stored in your region (e.g. NZ, Australia, European Union, USA), supporting data residency, low latency, and regional compliance.
-
Yes. Observodon is designed to work across devices.
Mobile (phone/tablet): Ideal for real-time observation in the field. Capture video and add notes and reflections as things happen.
Desktop/laptop: Better suited for reviewing observations and writing more detailed feedback and marking.
In short: Mobile = capture. Desktop = reflect and analyse.
-
Most users can get started quickly. Short onboarding sessions are available to help teams use Observodon effectively and consistently.
-
Yes. A demo or trial can be arranged so you can explore how Observodon works in your own context.
-
When you trim a video, the cut points snap to the nearest keyframe rather than the exact moment you selected. This can be slightly forwards or backwards, which may make the final clip a little longer (or shorter) than expected. It’s a normal part of how video files are structured and helps ensure smooth playback.
-
The maximum file size is 200MB. If your video is larger than this, you can trim it or reduce the quality to bring the file size down before uploading.
-
Due to platform restrictions, trimming isn’t supported on iPhone or iPad. Apple requires apps to use their built-in video editing tools, and this prevents us from offering trimming within the app. To work around this, you’ll need to trim your video using your device’s native editing tools before uploading it.
